Rail Baltica has launched the international tender for the architectural design of Vilnius Central Station, in Lithuania

This process is carried out jointly by the Rail Baltica authority, the Vilnius City Municipality and the Lithuanian Railways (LTG) and includes the design that will be applied for the reconstruction of the train station and its surroundings.

According to Rail Baltica's official tender page, the scope of the project includes: The Vilnius train station complex, station square and public transport terminal, construction technical project, preparation of BIM model, receipt of the construction permit, preparation of the work project or its parts and construction project execution supervision services.

This is a new opportunity for European companies and particularly for Spanish designers who already have a prominent participation in the design of a good part of the Rail Baltica track layout.

As a premise, the Lithuanian authorities have established that the project should be aimed at creating spaces that correspond to the best examples of train stations in Western Europe, and that the station should not only be a point to undertake rail travel, but also a new attraction centre with leisure and service spaces, comfortable connections for pedestrians, cyclists, and everyone choosing comfortable and eco-friendly trips by train.

The companies participating in the tender will be challenged to create an iconic and globally recognizable international train station project, offer public transport infrastructure that meets the highest quality standards, form an attractive station plaza and offer an idea for a viable and well-connected station design.

The significance of the transformation of the Vilnius train station is evident since it will become one of the stations from where it will be possible to reach Warsaw directly and from there to all European cities.

At Deltana we fully understand the importance of Rail Baltica, since we have been linked to this project since 2019, collaborating in the design phase and supporting the technical work office in the execution of the section of Riga central station, where we have put in practice all our capacity in modeling in a BIM environment, in a highly demanding project, where the best companies worldwide participate.
